Shock Wave Therapy for Plantar Fasciitis

Shock wave therapy for plantar fasciitis is a non-invasive medical treatment designed to alleviate the excruciating heel pain caused by plantar fasciitis. Plantar fasciitis is a condition that is characterized by inflammation of the plantar fascia, a thick band of tissue connecting the heel bone to the toes. This inflammation results in stabbing pain, especially with the first steps in the morning. Shock wave therapy, also known as extracorporeal shock wave therapy, or ESWT, involves the application of high-energy shock waves to the affected area. These shock waves stimulate the body's natural healing processes by increasing blood flow and promoting tissue repair. Additionally, shock wave therapy may break down the calcium deposits that can form in the plantar fascia. This treatment is typically administered over several sessions, and its effectiveness varies from person to person. While it is considered safe, consulting a podiatrist is crucial in determining if shock wave therapy is the right choice for managing your plantar fasciitis. If you are interested in learning more about shockwave therapy, it is suggested that you confer with this type of doctor who can provide you with the information you are seeking.

Shockwave therapy is a treatment commonly used to treat various injuries and conditions, particularly plantar fasciitis in the feet. To learn more, consult with one of our podiatrists from Grobowski Foot & Ankle. our doctors can provide the care you need to keep you pain-free and on your feet.

Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave therapy is a new treatment option designed to treat bone conditions such as tennis elbow, shoulder pain, and others. Shockwave therapy uses high intensity sound waves that are directed to the affected tissues of the body with pinpoint accuracy. The effects are very beneficial, leading to a production of collagen fibers, eliminating inflammation.

Who Benefits from Shockwave?

Shockwave is recommended for patients suffering from heel pain and associated problems. Heel pain is a common condition which can be caused by obesity, overexertion, and spending a substantial amount of time on hard floors with your feet exposed and unsupported.

Fast and Easy

The therapy is actually a simple process that can leave patients feeling better the very next day. Shockwave therapy is not as dramatic as it sounds. It enables more blood flow to effected areas, addressing the source of the problem and allowing treatment to last for a long time.

Treatment & Recovery Time

Shockwave treatment will enable your feet to recover quickly. This is especially important since surgery is not required. It is cost effective and does not require the use of anesthesia. This treatment is a better option to surgery, since it is proven safe.

Finding the Right Ankle Brace

When it comes to finding the right ankle brace, it's essential to consider your specific needs and condition. Lace-up support braces are tailored for demanding athletes during their sports activities. These braces offer a custom fit, making them easy to put on and remove. For daily use and mild support, ankle braces in the form of sleeves or wrap-arounds may be helpful. These braces offer compression and stability, making them perfect for those with chronic ankle instability or who are recovering from mild sprains. For high-impact sports or activities that involve quick lateral movements and jumping, ankle braces that offer moderate to maximum support are a choice. These braces often feature side stays to prevent ankle rolls. Maximum support braces even come with semi-rigid shells to prevent further injury while allowing normal movement. In cases of severe injuries, fractures, or post-surgery recovery, a boot or full-shell protection brace offers ankle protection and reduces foot pressure while walking. These devices are not suitable for sports and are primarily designed for immediate recovery. To find the proper brace for your ankle recovery, it is suggested that you make an appointment with a podiatrist to determine the best choice for your specific needs.

Ankle pain can be caused by a number of problems and may be potentially serious. If you have ankle pain, consult with one of our podiatrists from Grobowski Foot & Ankle. our doctors will assess your condition and provide you with quality foot and ankle treatment.

Athlete's foot, a common fungal infection, can cause discomfort and frustration for those affected. The symptoms often include itching, burning, and stinging sensations in the affected areas, generally between the toes or on the soles of the feet. Skin peeling, blistering, and dryness may also occur. This condition is primarily caused by various types of fungi, thriving in warm, damp environments such as locker rooms, swimming pools, and shared showers. Direct contact with the fungi through contaminated surfaces or by sharing shoes, towels, or socks can facilitate its spread. Additionally, individuals with sweaty feet or those who wear tight, closed toe shoes for extended periods are at higher risk. Maintaining proper foot hygiene, wearing breathable footwear, and keeping feet dry can aid in prevention and mitigate the symptoms of athlete's foot. Athlete’s foot is treated by a podiatrist, and it is suggested that you visit this type of doctor who can effectively treat this condition.

  • Redness
  • Burning
  • Itching
  • Scaly and peeling skin

Definition and Causes of Sever’s Disease

Sever's disease, also known as calcaneal apophysitis, is a common but often misunderstood condition that affects growing children, particularly those involved in sports. The primary cause of Sever's disease is the rapid growth of bones in the feet during adolescence. This growth can outpace the development of the Achilles tendon, causing tension and irritation where the tendon attaches to the heel's growth plate. Symptoms typically include heel pain, which may be sharp, throbbing, or aching, especially during or after physical activities. The pain tends to worsen with pressure on the heel, especially during running or jumping. Children may also experience limping or discomfort while walking, particularly upon waking or after periods of rest. While Sever's disease is a self-limiting condition that resolves with time, it is a good idea to manage symptoms effectively. Adequate rest and performing gentle stretching exercises can help alleviate pain and promote healing. If your child complains of heel pain, it is suggested that you consult a podiatrist for guidance and to see if Sever's disease is causing the problem.

Sever's disease often occurs in children and teens. If your child is experiencing foot or ankle pain, see one of our podiatrists from Grobowski Foot & Ankle. our doctors can treat your child’s foot and ankle needs.

Sever’s Disease

Sever’s disease is also known as calcaneal apophysitis, which is a medical condition that causes heel pain I none or both feet. The disease is known to affect children between the ages of 8 and 14.

Sever’s disease occurs when part of the child’s heel known as the growth plate (calcaneal epiphysis) is attached to the Achilles tendon. This area can suffer injury when the muscles and tendons of the growing foot do not keep pace with bone growth. Therefore, the constant pain which one experiences at the back of the heel will make the child unable to put any weight on the heel. The child is then forced to walk on their toes.

Symptoms

Acute pain – Pain associated with Sever’s disease is usually felt in the heel when the child engages in physical activity such as walking, jumping and or running.

Highly active – Children who are very active are among the most susceptible in experiencing Sever’s disease, because of the stress and tension placed on their feet.
